Eight people were rescued after their fishing boat capsized in the waters off Culasi, Antique, amid strong winds, heavy rain and rough seas, the Philippine Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard said it received a report of the maritime incident at about 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 4.
Personnel from Coast Guard Sub-Station Culasi immediately launched a search and rescue operation.
At about 12:42 a.m. on Aug. 5, rescuers located the fishing boat and successfully rescued all eight people on board.
The Coast Guard also towed the vessel to the shoreline of Barangay Lipata in Culasi.
According to the investigation, the fishing boat departed from Malay, Aklan, and was bound for Culasi, Antique.
Authorities said the vessel encountered strong winds, heavy rainfall and large waves while at sea.
Investigators found that the boat’s exhaust pipe, located inside the storage compartment, became detached during the voyage.
As a result, seawater entered the vessel until it eventually capsized.
The Coast Guard reported that none of the eight passengers sustained injuries during the incident.
Authorities did not immediately release additional details about the identities of those rescued.
The Coast Guard continues to remind mariners and small vessel operators to closely monitor weather conditions and exercise caution before traveling, particularly during periods of rough seas and adverse weather.
