Actress Claudine Barretto has filed a cyber libel complaint against veteran showbiz columnist Cristy Fermin and Romel Chika over alleged false statements about her.
Barretto personally went to the National Bureau of Investigation headquarters in Pasay City shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday to file the complaint.
The actress said she had reached her breaking point over Fermin’s alleged attacks, which she claimed had been ongoing since last year.
Barretto admitted that the controversy had taken an emotional toll on her, particularly on her family and supporters. She also stressed that she would not withdraw the complaint even if Fermin and Chika apologized.
Among the alleged statements that angered Barretto were claims that she had bipolar disorder, relied financially on her sister Gretchen Barretto, and had been hospitalized for cosmetic procedures.
The actress said she had repeatedly asked Fermin to stop making false claims about her, but the alleged remarks continued.
Meanwhile, Fermin challenged Barretto’s plan to pursue legal action, claiming that the actress had allegedly done several questionable things that could be exposed if the case moved forward.
