A 22-year-old delivery rider was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects shortly after delivering a parcel in Roxas City, Capiz, on the afternoon of July 28, police said.
The victim was identified as Chester Azurquin Alagon, a resident of Barangay Dinginan.
According to the Roxas City Police, Alagon had just completed a parcel delivery in Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Sibaguan, when the suspects shot him before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
In an interview with Brigada News FM Roxas, Roxas City Police Station chief Lt. Col. Rogelio Tomagtang Jr. said the suspects did not take any money or personal belongings from the victim.
Because nothing was stolen, investigators are pursuing possible motives other than robbery.
Tomagtang said police are reviewing closed-circuit television footage and information provided by residents during the investigation.
Some residents told investigators that the victim had allegedly been watched and followed several times by still-unidentified individuals before the shooting.
Police have not identified the suspects or announced any arrests in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, fellow delivery riders from the Capiz Roxas Hub called for justice for Alagon.
The group described him as hardworking and responsible, saying he continued making deliveries despite the heat, rain and heavy workloads to help support his family.
His colleagues also remembered him as cheerful, kind, humble and well-loved among fellow riders.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine available evidence and pursue leads to determine the motive behind the fatal shooting.
