Sen. Imee Marcos criticized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. over his statement that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez could soon face multiple criminal charges, calling the remark “pambubudol” or deception.
In a post on her social media account, the senator questioned the administration’s handling of legal cases, saying it was notable how quickly complaints were filed against senators who oppose the government while the justice process appeared slower when it came to well-known administration allies.
Imee Marcos also expressed doubt that Romualdez acted alone in what she described as widespread corruption involving money and political power.
She argued that Romualdez should not be viewed as the sole person responsible for the alleged wrongdoing, saying that if authorities continued to focus only on the former House speaker, it would raise questions about whether he had been running the government by himself.
The senator said the issue extended beyond one individual and suggested that accountability should not be limited to a single official if allegations of corruption involve a broader network.
Toward the end of her statement, Imee Marcos also took aim at a previous remark made by President Marcos in which he said, “mahiya naman kayo” or “have some shame.”
She questioned what had become of that statement, arguing that those she described as shameless still appeared to remain free from accountability.
President Marcos earlier said that Romualdez could soon face multiple criminal complaints. However, Imee Marcos maintained that pursuing only one official while others allegedly involved remain untouched raises concerns about the fairness and consistency of the government’s justice system.
Her remarks add to the continuing public exchange between the senator and the administration over issues involving accountability and alleged corruption.
