The Department of Education (DepEd) has urged schools to maximize the role of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in helping prevent violence on campus.
The call comes in the wake of recent incidents of violence reported in schools.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said schools cannot ensure students’ safety on their own.
He stressed that protecting children is a shared responsibility, with PTAs serving as a vital link between families, schools, and communities.
Angara also encouraged schools to use PTA assemblies and meetings to discuss student attendance, behavior, mental health, anti-bullying initiatives, responsible digital citizenship, and other school safety concerns.
He further recommended that PTAs organize parenting seminars, digital safety orientations, values formation activities, and strengthen collaboration with local government units, youth organizations, and other professionals.
According to Angara, the strongest safeguard against violence is a community that truly knows and supports its young people.
He added that when parents and teachers maintain regular communication, schools work closely with local governments, and students know they can trust the adults around them, communities can identify problems early and create an environment where every child feels safe, supported, and valued.
