The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) formally concluded its three-day protest on Thursday, July 2, with a final gathering at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila.
The demonstration began on Tuesday and ended with supporters assembling for the last time to reiterate the group’s position on issues involving Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.
During the closing program, INC spokesperson Edwil Zabala again questioned the Office of the Ombudsman’s plan to file a plunder case against Marcoleta.
Zabala maintained that the donations received by the senator did not come from public funds. He also questioned why Marcoleta was allegedly being targeted, saying the senator had been working to bring out what he described as the truth behind the alleged anomalies in the flood control scandal.
The planned filing of charges against Marcoleta has become one of the central issues raised by the religious group throughout its three-day demonstration.
At the conclusion of the rally, Zabala thanked participants who joined what he described as a peaceful protest over the past three days.
He said the group believes it successfully conveyed its call for accountability and transparency to the government through the demonstrations.
The final gathering marked the end of the series of protests organized by the INC, which drew supporters to Liwasang Bonifacio during the three-day event.
Throughout the protest, organizers consistently maintained their position regarding the planned plunder case against Marcoleta and called attention to the issues they raised concerning the ongoing controversy surrounding the flood control scandal.
The rally concluded without any announcement from organizers regarding additional protest activities.
