Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV has filed another cyberlibel complaint against Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen. Rodante Marcoleta and 18 individuals who identified themselves as former bodyguards of former congressman Zaldy Co.
The complaint is connected to a Senate hearing held on June 4, during which witnesses presented allegations against several personalities, including Trillanes.
According to Trillanes, every repetition of what he described as false statements against him constitutes a separate offense.
He said he will continue filing complaints against those he accused of spreading false information.
Trillanes also accused Cayetano and Marcoleta of allowing the alleged defamatory statements to be disseminated through the questions they asked and the remarks they made during the Senate hearing.
He said it will be up to the court to determine whether the newly filed complaint will be consolidated with his earlier cases, noting that the previous complaints against the 18 former bodyguards have already been submitted for resolution.
The latest filing is the third complaint Trillanes has lodged before the Department of Justice following accusations that he allegedly accepted money intended to bribe investigators of the International Criminal Court.
Trillanes has repeatedly denied the allegation.
No immediate response from Cayetano, Marcoleta or the 18 respondents was included in the information released.
The complaint remains subject to the Department of Justice’s review under the applicable legal process.
The case stems from allegations raised during the June 4 Senate hearing and Trillanes’ assertion that repeated publication of the same statements gives rise to separate cyberlibel complaints under the law.
