More than 1,300 food packs were successfully delivered to residents affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental on June 8.
The relief mission reached four barangays in the municipality that were affected by the earthquake. Beneficiaries were from Caburan Small, Magulibas, Malalan, Kablay and Barangay Patulang.
The assistance was delivered through a joint effort by teams from Brigada News FM Davao, Tagum and Mati. The mission proceeded despite challenges brought by sudden rainfall during the distribution activities.
Residents in the affected communities expressed gratitude for the assistance. In Barangay Kablay, residents said Brigada News FM was the first radio station to deliver aid to the area after access became difficult in recent days because of landslides triggered by the earthquake.
The affected communities have been dealing with the impact of the June 8 earthquake, which caused damage and disrupted access routes in several areas of Jose Abad Santos.
Brigada News FM also thanked its sponsors, donors and volunteers whose support helped make the relief operation possible.
Among those who expressed appreciation was Nieves Bualan Danganon of Barangay Malalan. She thanked those involved in the relief effort, saying the assistance provided support to residents still coping with the trauma caused by the earthquake.
The relief mission forms part of ongoing efforts to assist communities affected by the powerful earthquake and its aftermath in Davao Occidental.
