More than 112,000 people across the Davao Region have been affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck near Maasim, Sarangani, according to disaster response data released as of 2 p.m. on June 13.
Authorities reported that 34,016 families, equivalent to 112,951 individuals, were affected by the earthquake. Of the total, 655 families or 2,353 persons were displaced and staying outside evacuation centers.
The earthquake also caused significant damage to residential properties across the region. A total of 7,029 houses were damaged, including 2,650 that were totally destroyed and 4,379 that sustained partial damage.
Government assistance extended to affected communities has reached P26.4 million as response efforts continue in the hardest-hit areas.
Davao Occidental recorded the highest number of affected residents among the provinces in the region. The province reported 31,206 affected families or 101,418 individuals. It also accounted for 6,922 damaged houses, including 2,644 homes that were completely destroyed.
Within Davao Occidental, Jose Abad Santos recorded the highest number of affected families at 22,576. Malita followed with 3,362 affected families, while the municipality of Sarangani reported 2,698 affected families. Sarangani also logged 646 displaced families and 927 damaged houses, including 814 homes that were totally destroyed.
Elsewhere in the region, Davao del Norte reported 2,043 affected families, Davao Oriental recorded 502 affected families, and Davao del Sur listed 265 affected families.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office XI continued distributing assistance to affected communities. Relief items included family food packs, family tents, modular tents, hygiene kits, kitchen kits, sleeping kits, and ready-to-eat food packs.
Authorities said relief and recovery operations remain ongoing as local government units and national agencies continue damage assessments and assistance efforts for affected families throughout the Davao Region.
