Ateneo de Manila University continues to mourn the loss of its student-athletes, Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
In a new statement, the university said it has been closely coordinating with the families of the two athletes since the incident occurred to provide assistance and support.
On the morning of June 9, the remains of Rene and Divine were transferred from Aurora Memorial Hospital to Arlington Memorial Chapels and Crematory in Quezon City.
At the request of Rene’s mother, his remains will undergo an autopsy.
The university assured the public that it is coordinating with authorities, including the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), through Arlington Memorial Chapels to facilitate the process.
Meanwhile, Divine’s family has requested that his remains be repatriated to Nigeria.
Ateneo also announced that members of the basketball team and coaching staff have returned from Aurora and participated in psychological processing and counseling sessions conducted by the university’s College Guidance Office.
The univesty acknowledged that the emotional impact of the incident goes far beyond a single counseling session, and said it remains committed to providing ongoing counseling, psychosocial support, and other forms of assistance to affected student-athletes, coaches, and staff members.
