The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) has revoked the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) issued to the Philippine Sanjia Steel Corporation, a steel manufacturing plant in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental that was raided on May 15.
Authorities previously confirmed the presence of radioactive materials at the facility, along with alleged violations of environmental laws. The site was also found to be housing 69 Chinese nationals and reportedly contained hazardous equipment.
As a result, a cease and desist order has been issued against the company.
Meanwhile, during a press conference, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. was asked about reports claiming that he and his family had been barred from entering China.
In response, Teodoro said he has no assets in China and has no plans to visit the country.
He added that while he would like to visit because of the kindness of its people, his interest is overshadowed by his views on the type of government currently in place there.
