CIDG summons Sen. Bato over alleged EJK cases

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has issued a subpoena against Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa in connection with alleged extrajudicial killings (EJKs).

Under the subpoena, dela Rosa was ordered to appear before the CIDG on May 14 at 10 a.m. at Camp Crame.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the senator was being summoned as part of an investigation involving more than 100 EJK complaints allegedly committed during his tenure as Davao City police director and regional director.

Remulla clarified that the order was only a subpoena and not an arrest warrant. He stressed that authorities would not arrest or handcuff the senator.

The DILG chief also denied reports linking the investigation to the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying there was no existing ICC warrant against dela Rosa.

According to Remulla, the inquiry is a “purely internal matter” being conducted by the Philippine government and is only “in aid of investigation.”

At the same time, the DILG confirmed that airports, seaports and other exit points nationwide had been alerted to monitor dela Rosa’s movements.

However, Remulla emphasized that there was no manhunt operation and no arrest order being enforced against the senator.

The DILG also confirmed that the previously organized 10,000-man task force prepared for a possible arrest warrant had already been dissolved after authorities found no confirmed warrant from the ICC.

Authorities said dela Rosa remains in the Davao Region.
