Two minors were rescued in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, after authorities intervened in a complaint filed by their mother against her former employer.
The rescue operation was led by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Iligan District Office, in coordination with the Marawi City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Department of Justice (DOJ) Action Center.
Initial investigation revealed that the children, a two-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl, were brought by their mother to her workplace where she was employed as a household helper.
According to authorities, after staying with the employer for more than a year, the mother was allegedly forced to travel to Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, while leaving her children behind in the employer’s care.
Authorities said the mother made several attempts to retrieve her children, but her former employer reportedly refused to return them.
Due to the repeated refusal, the mother sought assistance from authorities, which led to the rescue operation in Marawi City.
Following the rescue, the minors were brought to the DOJ Action Center for proper intervention and assistance.
Authorities said further investigation is ongoing to determine the appropriate charges that may be filed against the respondent.
Officials have not yet released additional details about the condition of the children or the identity of the employer as the investigation continues.
