DENR continues probe into collapsed garbage pile in Rizal

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR–EMB) is monitoring the reported trash slide at a sanitary landfill operated by Green Leap Solid Waste Management, Inc. in Barangay San Isidro, Rodriguez, Rizal.

In a statement, the DENR said it has conducted an on-site investigation and ordered immediate stabilization operations following the collapse on February 20.

Personnel were also deployed to assess the situation and verify reports regarding the missing individuals.

The proponent-operator also directed the implementation of stabilization measures, such as leveling and sloping of the affected portions of the landfill. Additional tasks have been assigned to Green Leap Solid Waste Management, Inc. as part of full compliance and corrective action.

Meanwhile, in an interview, Rodriguez, Rizal Mayor Ronnie Evangelista confirmed that of the three individuals initially reported missing, one has already been retrieved and turned over to the family.
