PDP dismayed over ICC denial of former President Duterte’s interim release request

The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) expressed disappointment over the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) denial of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s request for interim release.

In a statement, the group said the ICC’s reasoning—that Duterte is a flight risk—seems unfounded, especially considering his old age and reported health condition.

They claimed this may be one of the reasons the ICC has a damaged reputation in other countries.

According to the party, the court’s alleged bias has caused some nations to distance themselves from its jurisdiction.

The group further asserted that this development highlights what they described as the “unpardonable crime” of the current administration in forcibly surrendering one of its citizens to an international court.

In closing, the PDP vowed to continue efforts to secure Duterte’s release from ICC custody.
