85-year-old widower found dead in Cebu; money and jewelry missing

An 85-year-old widower was found dead in his room in Sitio Upper Lanao, Barangay Lanao, Moalboal, Cebu.

The victim, identified as Juan Sabanal, was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition, wrapped in a blanket. Sabanal, who lived alone, had not been seen since January 3, according to his family.

Police responded to the report filed by the victim’s grandchild and found disturbing evidence at the scene. The victim’s gold ring, worth an estimated ₱15,000, and a necklace were missing. His wallet was also reportedly open and emptied of its contents.

Family members also found a wooden object stained with what appeared to be blood near the victim’s bed, further raising suspicions of foul play.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the case, treating it as a possible robbery and homicide. The family of Sabanal is calling for justice, urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
