Authorities halted illegal mining activities in Libona, Bukidnon, following a joint operation that resulted in the arrest of seven foreign nationals and the seizure of copper ore and mining equipment, officials said.
The raid was carried out Feb. 9, 2026, in Zone 6, Sitio Manlauyan, Barangay Gango. According to reports, the operation uncovered a large underground tunnel believed to have been used for mineral extraction.
Confiscated during the operation were millions of pesos worth of copper ore and various heavy equipment, including dump trucks, backhoes, generator sets and processing plants. Authorities also found commercial explosives without proper permits. Police said the explosives could have been used for blasting activities.
Seven Chinese male nationals were taken into custody during the operation.
The raid was led by the National Bureau of Investigation NEMRO 10 in coordination with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Libona Municipal Police Station. Units from the Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal also assisted in securing and clearing the explosives found at the site.
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said operations like the raid demonstrate enforcement of the law. He said authorities will hold accountable those who violate regulations and added that personnel remain committed to protecting communities and natural resources.
Police said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to enforce laws related to mining and environmental protection. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the illegal mining activities and those involved.
