A 62-year-old Filipina was killed in a highway crash in Taiwan while she was on her way to the airport to return to the Philippines.
Ebelia Escalona Cortes died after the incident along Freeway No. 1 in Miaoli County, Taiwan, on August 19, MECO said.
According to reports, the van collided with another vehicle before it was struck by a speeding SUV.
Cortes and the drivers of the van and the other vehicle were killed in the crash.
Two other Filipinos who were traveling with Cortes sustained injuries and were brought to a hospital for treatment.
The Manila Economic and Cultural Office, or MECO, assured Cortes’ family of assistance and said it is coordinating with Taiwanese authorities in the investigation.
MECO is also helping facilitate the repatriation of Cortes’ remains to the Philippines.
Her family has appealed for justice and assistance as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
