Out of jealousy, a man hacked his three nephews, aged 19, 10, and 8, while they were sleeping inside their home in Barangay Owak, Asturias, Cebu early Wednesday morning, July 2.
The eldest, identified as alias “Karl,” 19, died in the attack. His two younger siblings, alias “Junjun,” 10, and alias “Girlie,” 8, were rushed to the hospital and are still undergoing treatment.
The suspect, alias “Teban,” 46, is now in police custody after he was arrested in a manhunt operation launched by the Asturias Police shortly after the incident.
Initial reports said the suspect barged into the victims’ room around 4 a.m. armed with a machete and attacked the children without warning. He fled the scene but was tracked down hours later.
In a radio interview with Brigada News FM Cebu, the suspect admitted he intended to target only Karl. He claimed he acted out of jealousy, suspecting Karl had an inappropriate relationship with his wife. According to him, he once saw Karl expose himself in front of her, though he never confronted her directly.
He also said the younger children were hit accidentally because the room was dark.
Police continue to investigate the case while the community grapples with the violent attack that left one teen dead and two minors severely injured.
