Three traffic enforcers in Cebu were removed from service after allegedly being involved in extortion activities captured in a viral video, authorities confirmed.
The incident involved personnel from the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue, also known as TEAM. In the circulating footage, the enforcers were allegedly seen soliciting money from motorists during a roadside interaction.
While speaking with passengers inside a vehicle, one of the enforcers was heard saying the money would supposedly be “for snacks.”
Meanwhile, audio from a dashcam recording also allegedly captured another enforcer offering an “areglo,” or settlement, in exchange for not issuing a citation ticket.
The enforcer was also heard saying that penalties at the office were expensive and involved attending seminars.
TEAM Head Hyll Retuya said the case was among several incidents already acted upon by their office.
According to Retuya, an investigation was conducted and the involved personnel were given the opportunity to explain their side regarding the allegations.
The three enforcers allegedly admitted their participation in the incident during the investigation, Retuya added.
Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the dismissed personnel.
Retuya emphasized that the TEAM office and the Mandaue City government remain strict in implementing a zero-tolerance policy against corruption among traffic enforcement personnel.
The viral video has since drawn reactions online, with netizens calling for stricter monitoring and accountability among traffic enforcers operating on Cebu roads.
