Authorities arrested an alleged member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) during a manhunt operation in Digos City, Davao del Sur, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Manny,” 31, married, and a resident of Digos City, was captured around 5:25 p.m. on March 11 in Barangay Kapatagan. The operation was carried out by the CIDG Davao del Sur Provincial Field Unit in coordination with territorial police units.
According to CIDG, the arrest was based on several warrants issued by courts in Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur. The warrants cover two counts of murder, attempted murder, frustrated murder, and attempted homicide.
Court orders for the arrest were issued on Oct. 11, 2021; Nov. 4, 2021; March 11, 2022; June 8, 2022; and March 11, 2024.
A report submitted to CIDG Director PMGen. Robert AA Morico II stated that the suspect is allegedly a member of the CTG and served as vice commander of the Sub-Regional Sentro De Gravidad under the Sub-Regional Committee Wesland of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee.
Police also tagged the suspect as the No. 8 Regional Most Wanted Person in the Caraga region for alleged involvement in several killings and attempted killings in Agusan provinces.
The suspect was also listed in the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Periodic Status Report for the fourth quarter of 2025.
The arrest was carried out as part of the Philippine National Police’s intensified campaign against terrorism under the leadership of PNP chief Police Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr.
CIDG officials commended the unit led by CIDG Regional Field Unit 11 chief Lt. Col. Ariel T. Huesca and the Davao del Sur Provincial Field Unit headed by Maj. Santi Noel G. Matira for the intelligence-driven operation.
CIDG said the arrest supports the government’s efforts against terrorism and aims to help victims and their families seek justice.
