26 shot dead in Maguindanao and Cotabato City in just 3 weeks

At least 26 people have been killed in a series of shootings across Cotabato City, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur from February 2 to 25, 2025.

Reports indicate that 33 individuals fell victim to these violent incidents, including four women and three minors.

Among the latest cases was the February 25 attack in Rosary Heights 3, Cotabato City, where an engineer and three others were shot inside a private vehicle, leaving one dead. The same day, a young girl was fatally shot in Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao del Sur.

Authorities also confirmed an assassination attempt on an incumbent vice mayor in Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur, on February 24. Another man was shot in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, and rushed to the hospital.

Other notable incidents include the February 17 shooting of a mother and her child in Mamasapano, Maguindanao del Sur, both of whom died. On February 13, two barangay officials riding a motorcycle were ambushed in Datu Abdullah Sangki, with one succumbing to injuries days later.

The string of killings has raised concerns over security in the region, with no clear information yet on motives or suspects. Authorities continue their investigations.
