The Land Transportation Office (LTO) recorded 639,323 traffic violations in 2024, marking a 20.75% increase compared to 2023. LTO Chief Atty. Vigor Mendoza II attributed this rise to intensified enforcement measures aligned with the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) road safety initiatives.
LTO-Calabarzon led the violations with 109,159 apprehensions, a staggering 144.11% increase from 2023, followed by Cagayan Valley with 70,855. In Mimaropa, violations surged by 120.76%, from 14,079 in 2023 to 31,081 in 2024.
Among the most shocking incidents was a delivery truck stopped on Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, with a busted tire, no OR/CR, and improvised plates. “What were they thinking?” exclaimed Mendoza. “These violations jeopardize everyone’s safety and highlight the need for daily operations.”
In total, 29,709 vehicles were impounded in 2024, a 21.93% rise compared to the previous year. Mendoza praised the LTO enforcers, who conducted operations even at night, targeting violations such as overloading, worn-out tires, and anti-colorum infractions.
“This only strengthens our resolve to enforce traffic laws daily and ensure safer roads for everyone,” Mendoza stated, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to aggressive enforcement in 2025.
With violations soaring and shocking lapses revealed, the LTO remains steadfast in promoting compliance and accountability on Philippine roads.
