Two children died and two others were injured after they were reportedly electrocuted during a Color and Bubble Fun Run at Cauayan South Central School on Oct. 3.
According to an initial report from the Cauayan City Police Station, the incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. at the school in District 1.
Police said the four children were in an area filled with bubbles when an alleged electrical short circuit or grounding occurred, causing them to receive electric shocks.
Police officers, Rescue 922 personnel and concerned citizens immediately assisted the victims. They were rushed to Cauayan Medical Specialist Hospital and Cauayan District Hospital for treatment.
An 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl were declared dead by the attending physician at about 6:52 a.m.
A 6-year-old child remained conscious and under observation at a hospital after sustaining abrasions on the arms and legs.
Another victim, a 9-year-old child, was discharged after receiving treatment for abrasions on the left arm and hand.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and establish the circumstances that led to the reported electrical short circuit or grounding.
Cauayan South Central School, meanwhile, issued an official statement expressing condolences to the bereaved families.
The school said the incident remains under investigation by authorities and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, assumptions or speculation while the inquiry is ongoing.
