17-year-old student dies after school incident in Bukidnon

A 17-year-old female student died after being found unconscious inside a school in Valencia City, Bukidnon, on Sept. 16.

According to the Valencia City Police Station, the student was found at around 6 p.m. and was immediately brought to a hospital for medical attention. She was later pronounced dead inside the hospital at around 10 p.m., based on a doctor’s assessment.

Police said the student was initially found alone in an area of the school. Reports indicated that she had an injury to her head and an injury involving her left hand.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death. One possibility being considered is that she may have fallen from a higher portion of the school.

Valencia National High School said it would not disclose the student’s identity or personal information, citing the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and respect for the student’s family.

The school said administrators and the Parents-Teachers Association immediately responded and continue to support the student’s family. It is also coordinating with the Philippine National Police.

The school urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information, photos, videos or speculation about the incident.
