A 16-year-old girl, known only as “Therese,” was rescued on January 19, 2026, after authorities received an online abuse report.
At around 1:50 PM, PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group Regional Unit 10, together with DOJ-RACETTF 10, launched a rescue operation in Balingasag.
The team coordinated with the Misamis Oriental MSWDO to safely retrieve the minor from the suspected online sexual abuse situation.
After the rescue, “Therese” was immediately turned over to MSWDO for intervention, counseling, and necessary medical assessment.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrator responsible for the online exploitation of the minor.
PBGEN Wilson C. Asueta, acting director of PNP ACG, commended the operatives for the swift and successful rescue operation.
He urged parents and guardians to actively monitor their children’s online activities and guide them toward responsible internet use.
“The welfare of every child begins with proper guidance at home,” Asueta reminded the public during a press briefing.
He emphasized that families play a vital role in preventing online abuse and protecting minors from predators.
The PNP ACG vowed to continue operations against cybercrime and ensure the safety of children in the region.
