Police have identified the person behind a Facebook post threatening a shooting at Inayawan National High School in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City on July 5.
Authorities said the person of interest is a 13-year-old boy, a former student of the school and a resident of Barangay San Roque in Talisay City.
According to police, the social media post threatened to shoot Grade 7 and Grade 8 teachers, as well as the school principal. The post claimed the threat stemmed from the alleged treatment of the boy’s sibling.
During an interview conducted by authorities in the presence of his mother and other concerned representatives, the minor voluntarily admitted creating the Facebook post.
Police said the boy also presented the social media account he used to publish the threat.
School officials and teachers have decided not to file criminal or civil charges against the minor or his parents.
The child was turned over to the City Social Welfare Services for assessment and intervention.
Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant Colonel Franco Rudolf Oriol, deputy city director for administration of the Cebu City Police Office, told Brigada Cebu that investigators have not found any indication that an organized group is behind recent threats targeting schools.
Oriol also warned the public to stop making similar threats, saying such acts carry serious legal consequences.
Police continue to remind the public to use social media responsibly and to avoid posting threats that may disrupt schools and trigger law enforcement responses.
