The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 112 individuals injured in firecracker-related incidents nationwide from December 21 to 28.
Metro Manila logged the highest number of cases with 52 injuries, followed by Ilocos Region with 12, Central Luzon with 9, and Western Visayas with 9.
The DOH reported a 20 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2024, but the agency continues to urge the public to avoid using firecrackers to prevent injuries.
Meanwhile, a 12-year-old child died in Tondo, Manila, while another child of the same age sustained injuries after a firecracker exploded in their hands. Authorities have yet to identify the exact type of firecracker involved in the incident.
According to the DOH, common causes of injuries include five star, boga, kwitis, piccolo, and other firecrackers. Some cases remain unclassified, as the victims were identified as passive victims who were only hit by stray explosions.
The DOH again reminded the public to prioritize safety, especially for children, as New Year celebrations approach.
