1 killed, 1 injured in Lapu-Lapu New Year’s eve shooting

A violent New Year’s Eve shooting in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, left one man dead and another injured, police confirmed Monday.

Authorities identified the fatality as a 25-year-old vegetable chopper, known locally as “Clifford.” His 26-year-old friend, a dispatcher, sustained a gunshot wound to the back and survived.

The incident occurred inside a vegetable warehouse at the local market. According to witnesses, a market vendor discovered the victims lying on the warehouse floor and immediately alerted authorities.

Initial investigations by the Lapu-Lapu City Police revealed that while the two men were inside the warehouse, an unidentified assailant suddenly entered and opened fire. Clifford succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest, while his friend is recovering in a hospital.

“The suspect appeared out of nowhere and started shooting!” said an anonymous vendor.

The gruesome attack has shocked the community, dampening the New Year’s spirit. Police are intensifying their investigation to determine the motive and identify the shooter.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, heightened police visibility has been implemented to prevent further violence in the area.
