₱764K smuggled cigarettes seized, 2 arrested in North Cotabato checkpoint

Authorities seized an estimated ₱764,977.92 worth of smuggled cigarettes and arrested two individuals during a checkpoint operation in North Cotabato, police said.

The operation was conducted by personnel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 12 (RMFB 12) in Barangay Central Panatan, Pigcawayan, on March 15, 2026.

Police Colonel Argel N. Ancheta, force commander of RMFB 12, identified the suspects as alias “Mohamad” and alias “Sheryl.” They were arrested for alleged violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and the Graphic Health Warnings Law.

Confiscated during the operation were 17 boxes and 44 reams of “Fort” brand cigarettes, with a total estimated value of ₱764,977.92.

Authorities said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb the entry and distribution of smuggled tobacco products in the region.

The arrested individuals are now under police custody and are expected to face appropriate charges in court.

RMFB 12 said it will continue intensifying operations against illegal activities as part of efforts to maintain peace and order and support development initiatives in the area.
