A 38-year-old woman died after being run over by a trailer truck following a road accident on Cansaga Bay Bridge in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City, on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Lyn, a resident of Barangay Cotcot in Liloan, Cebu.
According to the initial police investigation, both the victim’s motorcycle and the trailer truck were traveling along the outer lane of Cansaga Bay Bridge toward the southbound direction at around 1 p.m. on June 9.
Police said the trailer truck accidentally struck the left side of the motorcycle while both vehicles were on the bridge.
The impact caused the motorcycle to fall, throwing the rider onto the road. The victim was then run over by the trailer truck.
Authorities said the truck driver was allegedly unaware that a collision had occurred and continued driving after the incident.
Personnel from the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) later intercepted the trailer truck along U.N. Avenue.
Emergency responders rushed the victim to a hospital for treatment. However, she was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Police have not released further details regarding possible charges against the driver as of this writing.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
The incident adds to concerns over road safety on major transport routes in Cebu, particularly those shared by large trucks and smaller vehicles.
Investigators are expected to review all available evidence as part of the ongoing inquiry into the crash.
