A 37-year-old woman was killed during a robbery in Matina Aplaya, Davao City, early Wednesday morning, October 8, 2025. The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) confirmed the arrest of the suspect just minutes after the crime.
The victim was identified as Vicmarie Licena, 37, a resident of Bangkal, Davao City. The suspect, Renie Jay Bandino, 32, from Malita, Davao Occidental, was reportedly staying at Matina Aplaya Elementary School.
According to DCPO, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. along Matina Aplaya Road. A nearby resident said he heard someone shouting for help and later saw a man fleeing toward Norton Village. The witness immediately sought help from neighbors and barangay officials.
While Police Mobile 1127 of Ecoland Police Station 15 was patrolling the area, officers were alerted about the incident. With support from Police Mobile 2120, they conducted a hot pursuit operation and apprehended the suspect in Norton Village within minutes.
Officers PCpl Esperidion Reyes Jr. and PCpl Sychar John Solivio arrested Bandino and brought him to PS15 for documentation and filing of charges.
Investigators recovered a metal hammer believed to be the weapon used in the attack. Licena’s remains were taken to Anghel Funeral Parlor for post-mortem examination.
The DCPO said the case remains under investigation.
