Two brothers died after falling into a deep well on Wednesday afternoon, July 23, in Sitio Serum, Barangay San Nicolas, Buenavista, Guimaras.
The victims, identified only by their aliases Bugoy, 15, and Dagul, 26, were pronounced dead after being retrieved from the estimated 54-meter-deep well.
According to the police investigation, the incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. when the owner of the well reportedly asked four men, including Bugoy, to retrieve a dead frog from inside the well.
Bugoy was the first to descend but reportedly slipped and fell. His older brother, Dagul, immediately went in to rescue him but struggled to breathe halfway down.
A rope was thrown down in an attempt to pull Dagul up, but he was unresponsive and failed to climb out.
Rescuers recovered Dagul’s body at 4:25 p.m., followed by Bugoy’s body at 4:37 p.m. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
