Truck rams through six vehicles; 1 dead, 6 injured in Davao City

A catastrophic accident claimed one life and left multiple others injured on Davao City’s busy Maa Diversion Road after a wing van lost its brakes, plowing through six vehicles and five motorcycles. The deadly incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Authorities identified the deceased as James Narvaes, a resident of Maa, who tragically succumbed to injuries at the scene. The van driver, 34-year-old Christopher Abalos from Pangasinan, told the Brigada News team that he “completely lost control” after his vehicle’s brakes failed on a downhill stretch, making it impossible to prevent the accident.

Police Lieutenant Randy Guerra of the Maa Police Station reported that the wing van’s brake failure triggered the tragic chain of events. Witnesses recounted seeing the van barreling down at high speed, hitting one vehicle after another before finally coming to a halt. “It was a horrifying scene,” an eyewitness stated. “He just couldn’t stop.”

Emergency responders swiftly transported injured victims to nearby hospitals, though the number of those with minor injuries has yet to be confirmed. The aftermath left a trail of smashed vehicles and stunned bystanders as authorities worked to clear the chaotic scene.

According to Lt. Guerra, Abalos may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and property damage. “The devastation caused here is profound,” Guerra remarked, stressing the need for accountability in such severe cases.

Investigations are ongoing as police continue to piece together details of the tragic incident that left one family mourning and others reeling from injuries.
