A third impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte has been transmitted to the office of Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, according to House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil.
Garafil confirmed that the complaint was sent to the Speaker’s Office on Monday night in accordance with the Constitution and the rules of the House of Representatives.
The complaint was filed by a group of priests, nuns, pastors and lawyers. It was endorsed by Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila De Lima.
Garafil said the role of the Office of the Secretary General in impeachment proceedings is ministerial. The office receives the complaint, verifies it and transmits it along with the endorsements to the Speaker’s Office.
She emphasized that the office does not deliberate on the merits of the complaint and only ensures that procedural requirements are followed.
The complainants cited five grounds for impeachment against Duterte. Among the issues raised is the alleged improper spending of 612.5 million pesos in confidential funds.
No further details about the specific allegations were provided in the transmission announcement.
The next steps in the impeachment process will follow procedures outlined in the Constitution and House rules once the Speaker’s Office acts on the complaint.
The filing marks the third impeachment complaint lodged against the vice president and adds to ongoing political developments in the House of Representatives.
Garafil reiterated that the transmission was done in line with established procedures and that the Secretary General’s Office will continue to carry out its ministerial duties in the impeachment process.
