Teen thief caught on CCTV trying to rob ATM in GenSan

A 19-year-old male was caught on CCTV attempting to break into an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at a bank in Barangay Lagao, General Santos City, around 8 p.m.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Brilliant,” a resident of Purok Intake, Barangay Mabuhay, was seen in the footage using tools to try to force open the machine. Despite his efforts, he failed to access the cash inside.

The incident was immediately reported to the police, who launched a hot pursuit operation. The suspect was successfully apprehended shortly after.

According to General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) Director PCol. Nicomedes Olaivar, alias Brilliant has long been under surveillance due to his involvement in previous theft cases in the city. He is also believed to be behind a robbery at a Japan Surplus shop along J. Catolico Avenue in the same barangay.

PCol. Olaivar said the investigation remains ongoing. He added that police are also looking into other theft incidents in the city, with the possibility that suspects may be part of a group operating across different areas.
