21-year-old graduate drowns in Cebu waterfall flood

A 21-year-old man who had just graduated from college drowned after being swept away by floodwaters at Budlaan Falls in Sitio Baugo, Barangay Budlaan, Cebu City on Saturday, July 12.

The victim, identified only as Jerson, was a resident of Barangay Kamputhaw. He was reportedly celebrating his recent graduation with friends on a hike to Mount Kan-irag in Barangay Sirao.

According to Barangay Captain Nerissa Antolihao, the group was passing through Kabang Falls—also known as Budlaan Falls—when heavy rains caused a sudden surge in water levels. They became stranded as the stream turned into a dangerous current.

Police investigation revealed that Jerson was swept away by the flash flood and drowned. A high-risk rescue operation was immediately launched. Three of his companions were successfully rescued, while Jerson’s lifeless body was found later.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are reminding the public to stay alert during outdoor trips, especially during unpredictable weather.
