Teen girl found dead in Cagayan de Oro; police pursue elderly suspect

A 17-year-old girl was found dead in a swampy area of Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, and authorities suspect she may have been molested before being killed. The victim, whose body showed signs of physical trauma, was discovered in Sitio Mambato by local residents.

Police have identified the prime suspect as a 62-year-old widower, known as “Boy Tangkong.” He reportedly fled the scene after the crime. Witnesses confirmed the suspect was seen with the victim shortly before her disappearance, and an argument between the two was overheard in the area.

The victim’s mother stated in an interview that her daughter had left Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte, in December 2024 to find work in Cagayan de Oro, hoping to support her family. Tragically, she never returned.

Now, the family is demanding justice as local police intensify their efforts to capture Boy Tangkong. Authorities are currently conducting a hot pursuit operation in an effort to apprehend the suspect.
