Teacher dies after motorcycle hits stray dog in Cebu

A 57-year-old teacher was killed after falling off a motorcycle and getting run over by a trailing SUV on H. Abellana Street, Barangay Basak, Mandaue City, Cebu around 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, July 9.

The victim, identified only as alias Wena, was a resident of Lower Cubacub, Purok 7, in Mandaue City.

According to the initial police investigation, Wena was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle driven by 57-year-old Rene, a resident of Zone 3, Canduman.

The crash occurred when a stray dog suddenly crossed the street, prompting the motorcycle to hit the animal. The impact caused Rene to lose control, throwing both him and Wena off the motorcycle.

Moments later, Wena was hit by an oncoming SUV driven by an 18-year-old identified only as alias Richie, a resident of Poblacion, Liloan.

Wena sustained severe injuries and was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

Authorities are still investigating the incident to determine liability and possible charges.
