Taiwan has extended financial assistance to support recovery efforts in Mindanao following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the region on June 8.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) turned over US$200,000 (approximately ₱12.2 million) to the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
The donation was formally handed over by TECO Representative Wallace Chow.
Taiwan also expressed its sympathy to the victims of the earthquake and commended the resilience of the Filipino people as recovery efforts continue.
Chow highlighted the close ties between Taiwan and the Philippines, recalling how Filipinos volunteered to help Taiwan when Super Typhoon Nando struck the island.
He said the donation reflects the Filipino spirit of bayanihan, which he described as “Taiwanihan”—a symbol of the enduring friendship between the people of Taiwan and the Philippines.
