Suspect nabbed in Tarlac dogfighting raid; abused dogs rescued

A man was arrested for allegedly conducting illegal dogfighting inside his own home in Barangay Motrico, La Paz, Tarlac.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Anti-Organized Crime Unit (CIDG-AOCU) caught the suspect during a raid carried out under a search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 81 in Malolos, Bulacan.

The operation was carried out in coordination with the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) and the Animal Welfare Investigation Project (AWIP), following reports about the suspect’s illegal activities.

Authorities said the suspect, identified only as Akira, allegedly used social media to sell puppies trained for brutal dogfights.

Inside the suspect’s residence, operatives recovered three dogs, several cages marked for dogfighting use, bite sticks, and other tools commonly associated with the illegal practice.

The suspect is now under the custody of the CIDG-AOCU and is facing charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act (Republic Act 8485).

Investigation is ongoing to determine if the suspect has links to a wider dogfighting network.
