Structural Assessments to Be Conducted on Northern Cebu Churches After Magnitude 6.9 Quake

Archbishop Most Rev. Alberty Uy has urged churches in northern Cebu to suspend Mass services following the recent earthquake that struck the area.

In an advisory released by the Archdiocese of Cebu, the use of churches has been halted until mandated structural assessments are carried out on the buildings and they are officially declared safe.

The archbishop also called for prayers for strength during this difficult time.

The magnitude 6.9 earthquake caused extensive damage to infrastructure and several heritage churches in northern Cebu.

Reports indicate that a portion of the centuries-old Archdiocesan Shrine of Santa Rosa de Lima in the town of Daanbantayan collapsed. Residents also captured footage showing visible movement of the Parroquia de San Pedro Apostol Bantayan sa Bantayan.
