Six students shot at after doorbell prank in Batangas

Police arrested a homeowner in Lipa City, Batangas after he allegedly opened fire on six students following a doorbell prank that angered him, authorities said.

Investigators reported that the victims were Grade 12 students who were on their way to bring a classmate home when the incident happened. Along the way, the students reportedly decided to press the doorbell of the suspect’s house as part of a prank.

Police said the homeowner became furious and responded by firing multiple shots at the vehicle the students were riding in. Authorities noted that despite the gunfire, none of the students were hit or injured.

The suspect was taken into custody by personnel of the Lipa City Police Station. Officers recovered a .45-caliber pistol, which police said was used in the shooting.

Authorities have filed charges against the suspect, including attempted murder and child abuse.

Police continue to investigate the case and are gathering additional statements from the students involved as part of the ongoing legal process.

Officials reminded the public to avoid dangerous pranks that may provoke confrontation, while also stressing that violence is never an acceptable response.
