Six people have died in Florida in connection with Hurricane Isaias, while around 5,000 residents remain without electricity following the storm, Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed Tuesday.
Two of the fatalities were previously reported in Escambia County.
One victim died after a tree fell on a home, while another was found dead inside a garage where a generator was running.
The other storm-related deaths included a fatal vehicle crash at an intersection where traffic signals were not functioning and disruptions to the medical treatment of two patients.
Despite the fatalities, DeSantis praised local officials and residents for taking precautions, saying their efforts helped limit the storm’s impact.
Hurricane Isaias made landfall late Friday, bringing strong winds, heavy rainfall, flash flooding and tornado threats to parts of the southeastern United States.
Authorities are also distributing free supplies to residents affected by the hurricane.
