Sinkhole discovered in Tabogon after 6.9-magnitude earthquake

A newly formed sinkhole in Sitio Manaybanay, Barangay Maslog, Tabogon has drawn concern after the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake.

Disaster officials confirmed the sinkhole appeared shortly after the strong tremor rattled the northern part of Cebu, prompting an immediate site inspection.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Tabogon quickly responded and confirmed the area as unsafe for anyone to enter.

Residents nearby described hearing rumbling sounds before the ground caved in, creating a deep opening that left many startled and uneasy.

Fortunately, the sinkhole formed far from residential areas, reducing risks to lives and properties, authorities said.

Local officials believe the earthquake and soil movement triggered the ground collapse, a natural result of shifting tectonic plates and unstable terrain.

The LGU of Tabogon assured the public that it continues to monitor the site closely to prevent possible incidents or further collapses.

The MDRRMO also coordinated with provincial and regional disaster offices for further assessment and geological testing to understand the cause and depth of the sinkhole.

Officials reminded residents to stay alert, avoid the affected area, and immediately report any new cracks or ground depressions.

Authorities emphasized that public cooperation remains vital to ensure safety, especially as aftershocks and ground movement may still occur in the coming days.
