The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) believes the coming weeks will be critical for the country’s food situation.
SINAG Executive Secretary Jayson Cainglet highlighted the struggles faced by fisherfolk amid the rise in fuel prices.
In an interview with Brigada News FM, Cainglet said many fisherfolk have stopped going out to sea due to rising costs, while others have even sold their boats.
He also noted that the issue of fisherfolk being unable to purchase fuel from gas stations when carrying containers remains unresolved.
Because of this, he stressed the need to provide genuine support to fisherfolk and farmers.
Otherwise, he warned that if the sector is not heard and properly supported, the country could face serious food supply problems by late May, which may worsen in the following months.
