Sgroppino Bistro Italia: An intimate culinary experience in Ormoc City

Nestled along Burgos Street at Ormoc City Plaza, Sgroppino Bistro Italia—or simply Sgroppino—offers a charming fusion of Italian flair and refined dining, perfect for memorable moments. I recently had the pleasure of booking their exclusive room for an intimate birthday dinner with my boyfriend, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional.

With a ₱10,000 consumable package, I planned a quiet, romantic evening just for the two of us. The staff at Sgroppino went above and beyond in creating a beautiful ambiance—dimmed lights, soft music, and elegant yet simple flower arrangements on the table. It set the perfect tone for the celebration: cozy, romantic, and tastefully done.

From the start, the service was commendable. Our waiter was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaging. He made sure we were comfortable, offered thoughtful recommendations, and paced our courses just right so we could truly enjoy each dish without feeling rushed.

Now onto the real highlight: the food.

We indulged in a diverse spread that showcased Sgroppino’s culinary range. The Ribeye Steak (₱2,850) was the star of the evening—succulent, tender, and grilled to perfection. It had that rich, melt-in-your-mouth quality that steak lovers dream of. The Baked Salmon with Chives (₱1,800) was another standout. The fish was perfectly cooked—moist and flavorful, with the chives adding a fresh and aromatic finish.

We also ordered the Ebi Roll (₱550) and Chicken Satay (₱350)—both dishes offered an interesting twist to the overall Italian theme. The Ebi Roll was delicate yet packed with flavor, while the Chicken Satay had a deliciously smoky-sweet glaze that left us wanting more.

The Beef Lasagna (₱550) was hearty and comforting, layered generously with rich tomato sauce and creamy cheese. The Caspian Platter (₱1,250) gave us a lovely mix of appetizers, perfect for nibbling in between sips of our red wine, which paired well with the meal.

The Prawns Bruschetta (₱750) added a nice coastal touch—light, fresh, and slightly zesty. For dessert, we had Italian Chocolate and Salted Caramel gelato, which ended the meal on a sweet and luxurious note.

All in all, our experience at Sgroppino was delightful. We’re giving it a solid 9 out of 10, only leaving room for a few refinements that could elevate the experience even more—perhaps more affordable options for wine or personalized touches in the exclusive room.

For anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion in Ormoc City with elegance, intimacy, and impeccable food, Sgroppino Bistro Italia is a must-visit. We’re already planning our return.
