A senior citizen was rescued after a vehicle fell into the Iloilo River near Muelle Loney in Iloilo City Proper on Saturday morning, June 13.
According to initial information from authorities, the vehicle was being driven by a senior citizen when it struck a concrete barrier along the roadside before plunging into the Iloilo River.
Rescue personnel immediately responded to the scene to assist the driver. A truck helper who happened to be nearby during the incident also joined the rescue efforts.
The driver was successfully rescued and was immediately taken to a hospital for proper medical attention.
Meanwhile, the vehicle was also recovered from the river through the efforts of the Urban Search and Rescue Team of the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO). Using a rescue vehicle, responders were able to retrieve the submerged vehicle from the water.
Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the accident. An investigation remains ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the vehicle crashing through the roadside barrier and falling into the river.
The incident drew a swift response from emergency personnel, resulting in the safe rescue of the driver and the successful recovery of the vehicle. Officials continue to gather information as part of their investigation into the accident.
