Senator Sherwin Gatchalian insisted that Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa should already return to the Senate and perform his duties as a lawmaker.
Dela Rosa serves as vice chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, which is chaired by Gatchalian, and is also a member of the bicameral conference committee.
Due to his continued absence, Senator dela Rosa failed to participate in the bicameral budget deliberations.
In a program interview, Gatchalian said he has repeatedly tried calling his fellow senator, but his cellphone “cannot be reached.”
He added that he also asked dela Rosa’s chief of staff about his whereabouts, but was only met with a smile.
It was noted that Senator dela Rosa has not appeared in the Senate since November 11.
This followed reports that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued a warrant of arrest against him in connection with the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
