Senator Imee Marcos expressed doubts about the urgency of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, citing delays in transmitting the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.
According to Marcos, discussions on the impeachment process began in the House of Representatives as early as October 2023, but the formal filing of the case against the vice president only took place in recent months.
Given this timeline, Marcos sees no reason for the Senate to call a special session to expedite the trial.
Recently, Senate President Chiz Escudero announced that the impeachment proceedings would begin only after the next State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Meanwhile, Marcos declined to comment on statements made by Escudero and Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel regarding the trial schedule.
